Graduate Sunday at Church

Sunday evening they honored all the seniors who attend our church. There were six schools represented. Adam was the only one from his high school.

With the youth pastors.

They had five full sheet cakes.

With our pastor.

With some friends
I don't know if you are familiar with Westboro "Baptist" out of Kansas. (I originally posted Arkansas which was wrong) Basically they go around hating people, provoking them into getting physical, then suing them and often winning because the majority of their members are lawyers. They thrive on sensationalism and negative media attention. They picketed our church Sunday morning, but they got no media attention and none of our people went near them. Just smiled and waved. They were removed from our property so stood across a major street and held up signs saying "God hates fags." And "Your pastor is a w***re."

Kind of crazy because God doesn't hate people, only sin. And a couple of years ago our pastor preached against homosexuality (but NOT people, only the practice) and received death threats. So it was goofy to hold those signs outside our church. And anyway, what happened to the verse, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son...." Guess that's not in their Bible.

I have no idea how they rationalize what they do. If they wanted to make a change they could sponsor mentoring programs for teens (they picketed one of our high school because it was filled with sin), provide rehabilitation programs, counsel young, pregnant girls and since they are lawyers, arrange adoptions for them. But attacking people with hate messages is just as wrong as whatever sin they think people have committed. That's just my opinion.

Thankfully they were not there Sunday evening when we were having the celebration for our graduates. Adam's actual graduation is May 29. Anyone else have a graduate?

Congrats to Adam!

Also congrats to all of you for the self restraint... WBC is in Kansas, btw, my sister and BIL used to live a few blocks from it in Topeka.

I should have checked that. I went by what I'd heard someone say. They just sound very hateful. Hate is as much a sin as anything they picket against.

Yes- that "church" makes me feel so icky and sad.

Thanks Tanya.

I wonder what would happen if people just started ignoring them? No press. No attention. It would lose all its fun.
