The Girls' Mission Trip

If you are new to this blog, go back to this POST to read about Teen Mission International and the trip Jessica and Jasmine are taking this summer.

Jasmine has been cleared for the trip and there should be no problems with her neck.

It's healed pretty well, but we hope the scar fades with time.

Jasmine's feet may be the real issue. If you read her speech about EEC syndrome on my last post, and you should have : ) then you'll remember her talking about missing and fused fingers and toes.

Her left hand is missing bones, but won't be an issue other than she may not be able to hang on to the rope to swing across the creek as well as others. But the problem is going to be when she drops into the creek and then is in wet boots. Her feet have a tendency to chap and crack easily. And she has a cleft on the bottom of one foot.

I'm sending extra boots so she can change if this happens. And since Jessica is a leader, that shouldn't be a problem.

We're busy checking the list of what they need, and packing up what we can now. We're making a list of what the girls still need.

This camp is not for the faint of heart. The dress code is long pants, t-shirts and work boots all summer. In southern Florida where they train. And in Arizona! They have to eat what they are served, and that is going to be the tough one for the world's pickiest eater--who happens to live in my house. They are very strict both to build discipline and to keep 200 kids safe and healthy all summer. The rules of conduct are strict too, but really what most of us require anyway.

There is a time each day for personal devotions and there are 40 verses that have to be memorized during the trip. We are working on them now because Jasmine needs extra time and help with things like that.

The big thing right now is that the girls still need to raise quite a bit of money. And money is tight for everyone in our economy. Jasmine needs $900 more and Jessica needs $700 more. Part of our problem is that we are asking for help for two different children and that means less money for both. We understand that. But if anyone would like to help, please use the donate button on the right. I will split whatever is donated between the girls unless there are different instructions included.

Whether you can give $5 or $50 or even be a prayer partner, it is appreciated.

Oh, and did I mention that work boots are worn on Sunday with dresses (knee length or longer) or knee length skirts and blouses? We got the skirt below for $2.50 at Goodwill and it still had its original tags! Now just imagine it with a rose T-shirt or blouse and work boots : )

Bless her heart. Jasmine is such a sweetie. Her scarring is not too bad.

Thank you. I'm hoping it turns brown so it's not so noticeable.
