Adam's Prom Pictures

Finally got the pictures of Adam and Deja before prom. There were some fairly traditional ones I liked. And some kind of weird ones that, well, hmmm. Not sure how to say it. I'll post the pictures. You decide which are best : )

Interestingly enough, Adam has a half sister that his bio mom is raising. We know about her, but she doesn't know about him. I think their faces are so much alike. I'm not going to post a recent picture for her privacy, but I'll post a young one.

Adam

half sister--look at the chins and face shape

The mom to both of these children is white. Adam's dad is mixed, but his half sister's dad is dark African American. Yet she's much lighter than him. She still is in recent pictures. Adam's picture was taken in January so he wasn't as tan/dark as he normally is either.

Lots more going on right now, but I'll leave it at this for now. More soon.

In the meantime, go to the girls' blog and get some free books form the latest two posts. here

You do realize that race is a culturally constructed thing, and there is no genetic or biological factors that make a person a certain "skin color" AKA a certain "race," right?

sorry, there ARE* no genetic or biological factors

Anon (why do people always post anon when they say something they think might controversial???)--I was merely pointing out that since the girl had a much, much darker father, it's funny that she's lighter. I'm not in any way qualified in genetics, sociology, biology etc.

I love the prom photos! All of them. =) Deja's dress is so beautiful, and she's a lovely young lady. I definitely see the similarities between Adam and his half sister. I think it's fascinating what genetics will do. I am so dark, yet I have three light-haired children. I would have thought that at least one of them would have gotten my almost-black hair!

Fair enough, it's just a very common thing that people are very ignorant on, and given that you are a parent of children that are white and black, you of all people should probably be aware so that you can advocate for your children.

Also, I posted anon because I do not have a google account, openID (what is that even?), and I figured it'd be pretty pointless if I posted my name. Not like you know me, and you know, internet safety and all.

Everyone is welcome. And I"m an expert on...um, nothing. I just find skin colors interesting. I have a friend who is pretty light, married to an African American man, and their child is two years old, white with red hair! Go figure.
