Learning About Families

In a previous post I mentioned that the three youngest and I are reading through Just for Me: My Family. This book is a basic overview of families. Each chapter talks about one topic such as why families are special, the role of parents etc. It's a good book to read with children who are adopted or foster children because it gives you a starting point to talk about what families should be like, even though no two families are the same. I'll be talking more about the lessons in the book on the blog for girls here

Each chapter has a Bible family rebus story, an animal family, a Bible verse puzzle, a craft and a family activity.

Chapter Two talks about things families do for each other. One of those things is take care of each other. For this chapter, the Bible story was about Moses' family protecting him. The animal lesson was about how emperor penguins care for their eggs and their young.

The craft activity was making penguin cupcakes.

Everyone who was home got in on the activity, and we made a penguin for each family member.

You can do the same.
We also did a Protect the Egg game, which isn't as easy as it looks. Read more about it on the other blog.

If you have children 5-8 years old, consider joining us in reading through this book.

You can buy it here (free shipping on orders of $35 or more so buy four copies!!) or here. Or ask your local Christian bookstore to order it and help them out with your business.

Check the other blog for special projects, activities and give aways.

It's fun to make crafts you can eat :)
