Some of you read this blog, but never comment. So now it's your turn.
What traditions do you have for vacations?
What's the best trip you went on?
Car, airplane, boat?
What's your dream destination?
Best at home vacation?
Nearest fun location?
Summer missions or ministry?
What keeps you from going crazy in the car?
Spill it. We all want to know!
If you leave a comment on my blog, I usually answer within a day or two, but because of the convention tomorrow and Saturday, I'm not sure how much I'll have internet. I should have it at the hotel but most of the time it's almost midnight when we get back to the hotel after the Friday night session, but that's due to a late night McDonald's run.

What traditions do you have for vacations?
We wear our bathing suits underneath our travel clothes so that we can swim (before unpacking and sometime even before check-in) as soon as we get to our destination.
What's the best trip you went on?
For my fortieth birthday I took all of my adult cousins on a “Cousins Cruise” to Nassau. We had a ball!
Car, airplane, boat?
I like short car trips, short flights and don’t think I can tolerate cruising anymore.
What's your dream destination?
Alaska for the white nights.
Best at home vacation?
Setting up the r.v., pop-up and tents in the backyard and “living” out there for a while. Fire pit, porta-john and all.
Nearest fun location?
Campground about 4 miles from home.
Summer missions or ministry?
Year round ministry. My kids run a personal needs giveaway every month.
What keeps you from going crazy in the car?
Lots of good music and quiet moments. Anyone that cuts up may lose “first swim” which is a very big deal with the kids.
It sounds like you've got vacations down to a science!
Why no more cruises? I like having the food and bed all together. My last two cruises hit stormy weather and we were sea sick part of both and THAT was NOT fun. Last time was Adam and Jasmine's first cruise so it was disappointing to have all the water activities and excursions canceled. But it was the Karen Kingsbury cruise with Anthem Lights and Matthew West and that all went on as scheduled while we were at sea (and not hanging over the rail turning green!)
traditions for vacation..hm well we drive to North Carolina every summer..also hit myrtle beach (cousin there) and disney(other cousin works there)we do lots of day stuff too and this summer we'll be spending the 4th with family at a lake near atlanta I think.
It's a loong 4000km drive from canada to Charlotte but we pack the DS and the portable DVD player along with the new ipad this year and the mp3 player filled with adventures inbodyssey.
Best trip I've been on was to Haiti.
I prefer plane but on a 2 month vacation you need to have a car!
My top dream destination is Kenya.
Best at home vacation is camping in our tent in the back yard.
We love road trips. We always have quality (junk food) snacks we never have at home, so the kids look forward to them, too :-)
We almost always travel to visit family. Not very exciting answers, I'm afraid!
Nadia-that is a lot of driving. We listen to Odyssey too.
There are have been years when going to see my family in Indiana has been the only vacation. But now that I go to book convention, most summers we plan some stuff around that.
Wasn't planning to do a cruise again this year but realize my big kids are going to be moving on in the next couple of years.
We don't have any theme park tickets this year. It's 6 1/2 hours to Orlando so can't do it often enough to make them pay off some years. We only do that because we can get the FL resident tickets with all the busy times (Christmas, spring break months and all of summer) blocked out.
We've only been on two good vacations (to the Outer Banks) the rest of the years it has been driving to MO, MI or GA to visit family.
I do usually get some books on cd from the library just so the kids aren't watching movies the whole time we are in the car for 15 plus hours sometimes.
We have listened to books for book reports on CD on long car trips-black stallion once for a report due when we got back. Several of the Narnia books, Hunger Games, Magic Treehouse, Dragon Rider, Ella Enchanted, Number the Stars, Bridge to Terabithia,Wrinkle in Time etc.
We have been on a lot of vacations. I think that our favorite vacations were: cruising, white water rafting/tubing in NC, our Grand Canyon/CA road trip and the Big Island trip. We love travelling by air, road and boat. We are not picky.
Vacation: 2 weeks of Szarvas for some of the kids. Szarvas, in Hungary, is the home of an International Jewish Youth Camp. I went there as a teen, my younger siblings all went, and now our kids usually go. It's a lot of fun for them, and they have an opportunity of meeting kids from all over, with all kinds of beckgrounds. Other than that, trips to Hungary or Ireland are great, and we always go to Eilat and the Dead Sea for a few days.
We usually go by car and public transport. There are some places we like to go to, and we almost always go by train or bus: much cheaper.
Best at home vacation? Like every vacation we don't go anywhere. We garden, do crafts, swim, stuff like that. The nearest fun location is on our roof.
Felicia--I think you are certifiable :) Do you still plan to do the northern cross country trip next summer?
What amazing adventures for your kids, Hevel. But I guess for you it is normal life just like maybe driving down to Disney a couple times a year is for us. My 22 year old aspergers child dearly wants to go to Ireland but I don't want him to go with the groups that go from here beause many of them are pub crawls etc.
We are planning a northeast road trip. It is growing so looks to be at least a month long trip unless we cut off the CO side trip. Alaska is planned for the next year. We just didn't have enough summer to hit up everything we want to see.
I usually run out of money before time :)
