Dance Portraits

Looking at the pretty dance photos I remembered I wanted to ask something regarding make up. Are there many black girls at Jasmine's studio? The studio where my Ethiopian born girl has classes had never had another black girl before she joined, and her coach/teacher insist on wearing make up for photos that would look good on a pale Russian or a Middle Eastern girl, but looks horrible for her (bright BRIGHT red lipstick, bright, huge blue eye shadow, very pinkish blush etc.) They also don't seem to understand that the heavy make up you need on stage is not necessary for photos. So all our dance photos look horrible of Noya. I wish I could make them understand that not everyone is a petite Russian with blonde hair and blue eyes.

There was only one other when Jasmine first started but now there are several. Thankfully the studio director leaves it up to the moms what makeup to use as long as the effect works for the stage. I do as little as possible for Jasmine. A mom showed me how to use the lipstick both for lipstick and for blush. Just put a little on your finger and spread it out. Some of our white girls have way too much foundation and others don't wear any, just blush. It's hard when people insist everything be the same. I have trouble with the buns they are supposed to wear their hair in for recital but they have to accept what I do because you can't make a white girl bun with African American short hair.

Haha, the bun. I very much dislike the bun. It takes me forever to get my daughters hair back in a smooth ponytail. We also are able to do whatever makeup we want with our daughters.
