Daily Life

First of all, my new book is out, so please go buy a copy for the 8-12 year old girls in your life. It's a fun quiz book with good take-away value. We are reading it in morning devotions even though we have boys and it's a girls book and even though it's not a daily devo book and only one person actually fits in that age range. Since we have more time in the summer, we are doing a quiz a day.
We are  keeping to a daily schedule. Not minute by minute, but more certain things we do in the morning, afternoon and evening. In the mornings, we start with devotions and me reading a book to them. Also doing an ongoing spelling bee with the 200 most commonly misspelled words.

Then we work on a little reading, math and writing. School is a lot tougher than it used to be so keeping the brain alive in the summer is even more important than it used to be. The twins are reading the Magic Tree House books. They are a bit challenging for Kayla. Jasmine has reading to complete for her school. The twins have workbooks that were sent home to help them catch up, and Jasmine has a math pack.

In the afternoons we were doing roller hockey, swimming, biking, basketball etc. I messed that up by mutilating the ligaments in my knee. But we hope to resume some of that with Jessica in charge. After a couple of very frustrating sessions of swim lessons in previous years, I decided I'd just teach the twins and Jasmine myself. I used to be a guard/teacher/WSI.

Life around here goes much better with a schedule.
On Friday we set up centers. This week we had building center, fitness center, game center, play dough center, craft center, drawing center and reading center. But we only had time for each person to do three 20 minute centers, so they've asked for the same centers this Friday.

In the afternoon we watched a movie and  had banana splits.

Max turned 13 on Saturday.
Street hockey/roller hockey

Slip 'n slide

What are you doing this summer? Do you keep a schedule or are the kids in summer programs? (Jasmine's summer basketball league has turned out to be pretty much a joke. In four weeks they've had one practice and one game!!)

the slip n slide looks like tons of fun!

Our schedule isn't going as well as planned just because of all of the dr and therapist appointments we are going to. The therapist is seeing 5 of us- and pretty soon will probably be seeing all of the kids at one point or another.

BUT- we do take time for devotions, and some reading.... and after breakfast everyone is usually pretty good about getting out school workbooks and doing those for two hours.

It has been so hot here- we aren't doing as many outdoor activities as I had planned.

It's hard, isn't it? But if you don't have a schedule, certain ones get into trouble and have to be watched every minute. It hasn't been quite as hot here but now with mutilated ligaments, I can't do the exercise stuff with them. I figured I'd do as much as I could with them and wear off some calories!

This summer, let me see.
The oldest three are in the military. The next oldest is doing his basic training for two months before Uni.
5 of the kids are in the States to see grandparents.
The otehrs are with great-grandma in Eilat, just for the heck of it.

That's our summer so far. :)

How long do they serve in the military? Is it voluntary? I have one in the army. He enlisted for six years.
