San Antonio Conference

This year I won a scholarship to the American Christian Writer's Conference in San Antonio. After looking at the parking prices and the time it would take to drive, I decided to fly. Tyler went along for company. While I was in classes and meetings, he took an uber around town.

Out hotel was on the Riverwalk, and had a pool on the roof, but I didn't have a suit or time, really.

It was also across the street from the Alamo. I saw the Alamo at 10:30 p.m. Obviously, it wasn't open. Then I went briefly the day we flew out.

I really didn't see much of San Antonio, but I did get to meet with some editors about my books. Basically no one is looking for teen books, but they are very open to my adult underwater crime scene manuscript when I finish it.

I started a new author page on facebook for my fiction books. One thing editors look for is that you have your name out there in social media, so if you're on facebook, please look for Kathy Cassel, author. Click the LINK Please visit it and leave lots of comments :)

Last Day of Conference

It's been a crazy 3 1/2 days. Jessica and I have been in classes all day, general sessions during the day and in the evening and have been meeting with editors. We've also spent time with friends we only see once ( or twice if they go to ICRS) a year. We've been working on projects, and the more we work, the more we realize we have to do. So we have lots of work to do once we get home.

Conference ends after lunch today. We're stopping at a mall on the way home and will arrive home tonight.

At Conference

Jessica and I are at writer's conference. We'll be here until Sunday.
The cool part is reconnecting with other writers.

Conference director with her grandson. Funny thing is,  Dad is black, but the baby doesn't look mixed at all.

The grounds are beautiful. We didn't have time to take many pictures around the grounds today.
Eva Marie Everson writes different genres of books.

Deborah Raney critiqued my women's fiction.

Today I met with an author for a critique of my women's fiction book, and she actually liked the idea and the writing. As most of you know, I haven't written fiction before, so this is new to me. She suggested some changes that I need to make before sending it to an editor. I also have to finish it! She only read the first few chapters.

Jessica and I met with someone who'd critiqued our youth fiction. She wasn't that thrilled with it. We have a lot of changes to make.

Jasmine tried out for track. She ran a 9 minute mile. I think that's great, but there were 100 girls, and I guess they took the times from the mile and the sprints (not her strong point) and took the top 45 girls. She did not make the cut. But today were midterm grades (meaning the kids are half way through the third quarter) and Jasmine has all A's and B's.

We're sitting in evening session right now. Hope you are all having a great day.

More Conference

Even though I was only at conference for a day and a half, it was nice to connect with everyone. Seriously, this is the group where I fit in. It's a nice feeling. Eva Marie Everson. She's had a tough year but has kept writing. Check out her books on amazon.

Jasmine brought her practice pad and spent some time in Maple Fellowship practicing as well as doing some math and a lot of DS time.

Jasmine sang in the morning session on Sunday.

Earlier there had been crocodiles by the little lake on the conference grounds, so we went to see. There were three.

You can see two on the edge of the lake. One went in when we got near.

Then Jessica scared the other two by running to catch up with us.

At Conference

The girls and I are at Florida Christian Writer's Conference.

Hanging out with people we only see once or twice a year. This is Anitra. She is here doing interviews for a Christian radio station. I was doing really great until I got half way through a two part answer and forgot what the question was! Did she bail me out? Uh, no. Hehe. Oh well.

Torry Martin. He created the character of Wootan on Adventures in Odyssey.

My angels.

Or maybe not so angelic!!

You can tell we take life very seriously here : )

Hanging with Janis.

Um, yes she walking through the parking lot while on her computer.
Amusing ourselves in the chow line.
