First Game

First game for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (No, I didn't get to vote on the name! Every time we yelled go Turtles, a lady from the other team would look at us and start giggling. How mature.)

PDL week #2

After reading "Purpose Driven Life" chapter one for "church on the beach" (see post 9/7/08) last week we decided to read a chapter a week somewhere. This week we went to a different area on a bay, got pizza, and read chapter two.

Ready for the First Game

Rick helps Jessica get her uniform ready for marching at the football game tonight.
Rick is helping with concessions.

Tonight is an interesting game. We are at a public school. But we used to go to the Christian school. Our last year there, the principal left "to help with missions in the Philippines."

What he really did was start another Christian school and take the football coach with him and the whole football team. Stinky. His school is a draw for certain kids because all the classes are computerized and he doesn't have a dress code.

Anyway, we play them tonight. Unusual since we are public and they are a small Christian school. Unfortunately our team is getting really cocky about it. I hope they buckle down and play well.

Ty's ex girlfriend (who broke up with him ON MY SPACE so he was about the LAST to know) goes to the new Christian school. Ty isn't going to the game but she knows what school he goes to so I hope we really beat them. And also just because of how the new school opened and took the whole team from the other Christian school. Why not when they can do all their classes on computer and have a totally flexible schedule.

Wading to School

Ike is nowhere near us but anytime there's a hurricane going by the tide does something weird and the bay ends up in our back yard. We live near water but it's not accessible so we have no benefit from it.

The water has already gone down several inches. It was over the bottom of the trucks next door when we first got up but it was too dark to get pictures.

Adam heading off to school. He's lucky because earlier to was at his knees.

Tyler

I have a senior for the first time. So everything is a "first" for me. We survived the ACT and SAT last June. He was suppose to have special accomodations due to asperger's syndrome but that didn't happen. He did well enough to get into our local community college with a partial scholarship. That is where he wants to go for the first two years. Not quite ready to launch away from home at a large university.

Ty's schedule looks like this for now:
5:30 a.m. Up
5:50 a.m. family devotions
6:10 a.m. leave for bus
7:30 a.m. school starts (he has an hour at school before it begins)
2:30 p.m. school ends
3:00 p.m. home
Tues and Thur:
3:30 leave for karate at 4:00 (he rides his bike the five miles)
Thur:
6:30 Police department Explorer's program

Ty's classes this year are:
Advanced placement government & economics
honors English 4
Web design 1
business computer programming 1
drawing 1
drama 1
outdoor education
digital design 1

International Thespian Society (club)

His first two high school years were spent in a Chrsitian high school with basically no electives so he is loving this year (and last year) and he's handling the pressures of a large public high school better than I thought he would. And he's trying out some new areas like drama. He and Jessica are in the this class together and unfortunately a couple days they provided more drama than the teacher wanted and had to be separated (same last name so they sat side by side!).

I am really looking forward to sharing this year with Tyler.

Church on the Beach

Today we felt the need for a change in routine. We decided to have church on the beach. Jessica is part of a small group she couldn't miss at 8 a.m. at church so she drove in for that while we got everything ready.

We were just going to get donuts but then three of us decided we wanted hot breakfast on the beach. So we took eggs, sausage and bacon left over from the Labor Day breakfast and then stopped and got donuts for the two that wanted them. (They had hot also.)

Me leading devotions from The Purpose Driven Life. It went fairly well so we might work this into our devotion routine. We read from three different books during the week. (At 5:50 a.m.!)

Rick cooked the sausage, bacon, eggs and even toast on the camp stove while I read.

I got donuts for Ty & Jessica but since Jasmine just eats the sprinkles off them, I brought sprinkles for her and saved the cost of a donut!

Yep. That's me.

You will notice that Adam is not pictured. We are working with a counselor who feels that if he can't follow rules and do his work during the week then he should miss out on the fun. No work, no fun. We love this lady!! Adam is 13 1/2 so well old enough to understand and make that decision.

It was a beautiful day and everyone got along really well. Sometimes this is not the case. One day Ty & Jessica will play games together great and the next day they can't breathe in the same room. Today they got along great, the weather was beautiful, the water was warm. Love it!
